Dick was spending time at his holiday house North Mollymook and rather than swim or board ride, he sat back with a coffee capturing these magnificent images during the last week or two as Mollymook experienced some erratic weather albeit not on the scale as elsewhere in the state.

Thursday morning the Mollymook Dolphins on show

It was Wednesday evening when the rains began to abate and a glimmer of sun light emerged in the night sky around 8.30 pm reflecting the possibility of a better tomorrow weather wise.

Thursday was magnificent, albeit still occasional showers, we awoke to a big surf running out front of the Mollymook Surf Club. Training was abandoned by the ski and board team in lieu of getting out among the big waves for some fun. Then to top off a glorious morning whilst enjoying a coffee at the Mollymook Beach Hut Cafe, the dolphins arrived to provide entertainment as they began ‘body surfing’ the waves.

The annual Mollymook ‘length of beach’ swim was undertaken in glorious conditions. Word had traveled far and wide with out of town swimmers making phone contact days before the swim to check start times and OK to join the peloton. This year we had a record number of 49 swimmers taking part with 20 swimmers doing the entire 4 Km return journey and an additional 29 swimmers completing the 2 Km ‘length of beach’ swim. The ocean was crystal clear with only the slightest breeze on the return journey.

Holiday Swim Times

The early swim group take off approx. 6.30 am daily.

The larger swim group clarified their swim times:

Mid-week – 6.45 am

Saturday’s and Public Holidays – 7.00 am

Sunday’s 7.30 am

Special New Year’s Day length of beach swim: Those swimming both ways to meet at the surf club for a 7.00 am start, and those swimming one way to meet at the north end at approx. 7.30 am for all to swim back together.

Disclaimer: The Mollymook ocean swimmers are not an organised group but simply a number of local Mollymook Milton Ulladulla citizens joined by numerous other ocean swimmers holidaying in the Mollymook Milton Ulladulla area who all enjoy an ocean swim each morning. They meet at the Mollymook Surf Club – 6.45 am week days & 7.00 am – weekends. They endeavour to swim in pairs or groups, however each swims at their own risk, and numbers vary from 4 to 6 in the winter to say 40 during summer.

A glorious dawn welcomed the ‘boaties’ to Mollymook for the 2015 Navy Surf Boat series. Crews traveled from far and wide to compete in this prestigious series. Competition catered for junior men, junior women, open women and open men. Mollymook fielded crews in both the open men’s and open women’s events. Both Mollymook boat crews did exceptionally well and once they achieve race fitness, the medals will begin to flow. (We can only hope that once they become celebrities, they don’t forget their humble swimming friends who stood by them giving encouragement during their formative years)

The water temperature was perfect, about 19 or 20 degrees and the water clarity crystal clear. Nippers began at 6.00 am followed by the ladies boat crew all in preparation for competition later in the season. The early morning swimmers (as is their ritual) arrived, with the ‘first group’ leaving at 6.30 am followed by the ‘larger group’ at 6.45 am and then later still, a ‘straggler’. The morning began with a glorious sunrise and ended with coffee and birthday cake at the Beach Hut cafe.

THIS IS MOLLYMOOK!

.

Ben filed this report on our latest sports star, Big John. He is usually missing each Thursday to play in the Thursday morning mixed golf comp.

Ben reports that last week, Nov. 12, John had an amazing round of golf! The young reporter questioned Ben, What was so amazing about John’s round of golf?

Ben said “John played the entire course without swearing!” That was nice to hear, but was there anything else on the day that may have contributed to John not swearing? Well Ben said its interesting that you asked that question, “I hadn’t giving much thought to what may have contributed to his exemplary behaviour”. I guess a few things may have help:

a) He did blitz the field scoring an unbelievable 46 points,

b) He shot 10 under his handicap.

c) He was an easy overall winner on the day out of 100 odd golfers.

At Tallwood we sampled small portions of the chef’s amazing signature dishes, all in one sitting with carefully chosen and amazing wines to accompany each respective dish. It was an appreciative fine dining experience of carefully chosen foods that focused on the gustatory system and the senses, with a high culinary art. It was shared with great company, family and friends. Guests asked me to make special mention that there was no fuss whatsoever in catering for some of our guests who had special dietary requirements viz, gluten free and vegetarian. All dishes were of the highest standard.

John shares his amazing journey with the Mollymook Surf Club & Mollymook Ocean Swimmers and writes to say thanks to all for their support.

“The whole exercise was a fund raiser on behalf of the surf Life Saving movement and especially our own local Mollymook Surf Club. It was a shame that I didn’t complete the trek with the Surf Club guys back in August due to an injury at that time, but nonetheless was able to complete the trek in October and was very proud to reach the target raising $7000.00 that now hopefully benefit our Nippers and Youth Development. My experience of Kokoda will never be forgotten”.

South Coast Food Alliance

Four restaurants within a six-kilometre radius of Mollymook beach have combined to form the South Coast Food Alliance. Its aim? To promote the area’s commitment to slow cooking, fresh local produce and discerning palates.

The four founding restaurants are: Rick Stein at Bannisters and Tallwood in Mollymook, St. Isidore on the edge of Milton, and Cupitt’s Winery, on the back road between Ulladulla and Milton.

Friday evening October 30, their inaugural event took place with a packed house at the Mollymook Surf Club. It was ‘fine dining’ at its best with each restaurant serving one each of four dishes with accompanying wines.
