The Mollymook ocean swimmers are not an organised group. They are simply a number of local Mollymook Milton Ulladulla citizens joined by numerous other ocean swimmers holidaying in the Mollymook Milton Ulladulla area who enjoy an ocean swim each morning. They meet at the Mollymook Surf Club at 6.30 am and a 2nd group of longer distance swimmers at 6.45 am daily, throughout the year. (However during winter when the days are shorter we may start up to 15 minutes later, viz. 6.45 am and 7.00 am). There is no water safety, each person chooses individually whether or not to swim in the prevailing conditions and if so the distance they swim and understand they swim at their own risk. Most endeavour to swim in pairs or groups and numbers vary from 4 to 6 in the winter to say 40 during summer.
Mollymook Ocean Swimmers and Mollymook surf club members Margy and John Reed plan to tackle the Kokoda Trail during August 2015 to raise funds on behalf of the Mollymook Surf Club.
Some fundraisers planned include:
• Friday night February 27 at John and Jacqui Louth’s birthday bash. (A donation toward John and Margy in lieu of any presents)
• April 11 a raffle will be drawn at the Mollymook Ocean Swim Classic. (Tickets for sale during February and March at Ulladulla Children’s Centre, Jewellery Plus Ulladulla, and from Mollymook Ocean Swimmers.)
• Saturday night May 23, – a Trivia Night at the Surf Club which will coincide with John’s 50th birthday.

The two most consistent long distance ocean swimmers at Mollymook are Pete and Jan. Over the years they have been the backbone of the group, regularly holding BBQ’s and get togethers at their former Fairmont Ridge property, Jan the effervescent, happy, cheerful hostess with the casual nonchalant Pete always taking on the cooking duties.
Monday February 2, 2015 marks their 42nd wedding anniversary.
With Pete growing up in New Zealand, the young reporter inquired how did you both meet? Jan vividly recalls the occasion; “she was doing a tour of NZ. Having a drink one evening she noticed an unassuming but good looking young man. However more importantly, what caught my eye was a ‘random act of kindness’ that this young man extended to another patron. That ‘act of kindness’ led to us meeting and sharing a few words and agreeing to catch up the following day. It went from there and within 6 weeks we decided to marry and thus begin this incredible journey, sharing the remainder of our life together”.
With forecast wet weather on the Monday, the Mollymook ocean swimmers have brought there Australia Day swim forward one day to the Sunday January 25. Those planning to swim the length of the beach both ways have scheduled a 7.00 am start. Those planning to swim from the north end to the south end (one way) will begin wandering up the beach from the surf club at about 7.15 am.

An Australia Day BBQ breakfast is planned at the conclusion of the swim. So remember to bring some snags etc.

It was a glorious New Years Day. The sun shone in all its glory, the water temperature was superb, the ocean crystal clear and to top off this amazing swim, the dolphins arrive and swam among the 40 plus swimmers.
The local Mollymook Ocean swimmers were very fortunate to obtain the services of eminent ‘Master of Ceremonies’ H.G. Nelson and ‘Rampaging’ Roy Slaven, aka Bill and Roscoe. They did an admirable job containing the boisterous conduct and maintaining the entire awards presentation throughout the evening to a tight schedule. “Well done Roy and HG”.
