The beer is cheaper than ice cream and I’m riding my bamboo bike

Eat your heart out – my new delicacy is frog and eel for lunch

Maybe I won’t come back after all!

I’m still on the job looking for that elusive ‘perfect ocean swim’ location. I’m finding that elusive location difficult with floods and typhoons in Vietnam. I just hope the Ocean Swim committee are sympathetic to the difficulties I have encountered.  However I will have one recommendation to make, I found a brilliant place up the road where there’s a surf, the beach is clean and the place run by Aussies. It looks like something out of the 80’s in Bali run by some expats. They all have young kids and Vietnamese wives to look after them and do easy jobs like being a librarian, others are teaching at International schools.

.

It’s a present sweaty 28 in Saigon and this is 10.pm at night. Nonetheless the beer and ice cream is cheap so I can’t complain! The beer is actually cheaper than the ice cream!
.

I’ve moved on from rat to frogs for lunch accompanied with eel and fertilised duck eggs for ….. good luck!! The selection in the markets is eye blowing but don’t ask me what all the food is they have for sale. I’m just taking one step at a time tasting all these exotic foods. But you can’t go past rat and frogs for my favourite choices. (Although I must confess to a liking for dried mango)

A job for Billy to build up those puny muscles.

Street-wiring

.

Yes Billy you have to move all the water from this field into that other field with this shovel, and do it today!

I bought a new bike and its a real education here if you can survive crossing the road and not get tangled in the electricity wiring. The wiring don’t look good and those streets are so dangerous till you get your mojo going ;))

Down here at the beach a big wig decided it’d be a great idea to rip out heaps of palm trees on the beach in Hoi An and build a hotel. Now the beach is 500 metres further inland and there’s desperate but ineffectual sandbagging going on. (I better get back here soon before it disappears fast).

I’ve learnt not to drop your phone in the fish pond at the Hue Citadel.
