Next bike ride / swim adventure: Indochina ??

Travel report thus far,

After canyoning waterfalls in Dalat I hopped onto a bus very hung over the next day but still managed to talk a lovely young lady into riding 70 km with me through the jungle down to the coast. I’ve still got it!

Since then I’ve been in Cambodia looking at the mess made by the Americans and Pol Pot. People power won out and built the incredible Angkor Wat temples and drove off various invaders like the Chinese, Americans, Thai and French for centuries. They are so friendly and gentle.

Then Laos where I trekked for days in the jungle, riding bikes, kayaks and elephants. The food is so good and cheap, crepes, fruit drinks, beer, eating in the markets, on the streets. It’s great wherever you go and ‘rat’ is a delicacy, so yummy. For an accompaniment I had a Hmong whiskey which tasted like apple juice. You could drink it and drink it.

We’re in Hanoi now after a 3 day cruise in Halong Bay, kayaking and caves, amazing scenery and eating like a pig. It’s traffic madness here but everything is so easy to do. If you want a hotel, do a tour, get a massage it’s no problem always someone out there to get it for you.

I wonder what you ‘normal’ people are doing right now? Hope the New Year was great. I’ve heard that I didn’t win “Swimmer of the Year”. Ray apparently out bribed my offer. Any way here I was treated and fed like a king. We were entertained by traditional dancers, and guess who won the prized raffle? The NYE raffle was rigged so I could win! I deserved it after being upstaged by Ray back home.

My recommendation for our exotic adventure is an amazing jungle to coast bike ride, mostly all down hill and possibly an ocean swim across Halong Bay although we will need to talk the latter through. Nonetheless, rest assured I’m on the ball looking out for a real adventure for the Mollymook Swimmers in Indochina.
