Mollymook Ocean Swimmers
New Year’s Day, 2015 – Mollymook annual length of beach Swim
.
It was a glorious New Years Day. The sun shone in all its glory, the water temperature was superb, the ocean crystal clear and to top off this amazing swim, the dolphins arrive and swam among the 40 plus swimmers.
Alison a triathlete from Canberra began the 4 km swim setting up a commanding lead early in the peace whilst local distance swimmer Pete (as is his custom) headed out for the deeper water to avoid any north- south currents with Greg (visiting from outback Hillston) tucked in close behind.
Mollymook champion Gary followed Pete’s lead with Fiona hot on his heels only to nudge in front on the return journey. There was nothing between the pair for 4 kms. Fiona hails from Manly and swims with the “Bold and Beautiful” on a regular basis and trains under a Russian coach. So she was no slouch in the water and took some steam out of Gary’s sails. Fiona’s sister Micky streaked the opposition comfortably winning the 2 km event. Click on images to enlarge throughout, then on r/h side to click through

Blast from the past …
Heather sent through this pic below taken last year, New Year’s day 2014. (Left to right): Ross, Lesley, Karen, Garry, Heather, Mark.
She mentioned how things have change in just one year! Six of us ( four having completed end to end New Years swim 5 years in a row) swimming to north Molly and back. Kaye Beer met us at north end for an orange break. We were then joined by a few other swimmers who swam north to south.
Today … such a different story. How wonderful to see so many out early on the 1st day of the new year. Karen and Mark have now tallied 6 years in a row!!!
