Mollymook, NSW Australia.

To many February 14th is the special celebration known as Valentine Day, but to Moni Mudge and countless other lovers of the ocean it marks the celebration of a different kind, “World Love for Dolphins Day”!
.

Monica and her daughters Sarah & Jade share an immense passion for the ocean. They spend countless hours playing in the ocean be it swimming, surfing, rowing, snorkeling or just floating around. They also dedicate their spare time volunteering to the Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia (ORRCA) as trained Marine Mammal Rescuers. ORRCA is also involved with the protection and welfare of seals, sea lions, dolphins and dugongs. Their passion for ocean wildlife came not only from their love of the ocean but from a deep seeded passion to find a way to be the voice for these beautiful creatures.        (Image credits: 1st and 2nd rows – Mick ‘Popeye’ Purcill. Taiji, Japan

Some years ago Monica learned of the mass killings of countless numbers of dolphins and small whales that takes place in a hidden shallow bay of Taji in Japan, now referred to as the Killing Cove. Ever since learning of this atrocity Monica has held a heavy heart and a genuine concern for the welfare of these beautiful , defenceless creatures. What we can do to make a difference?

.

Monica would like to invite the Mollymook Ocean Swimmers and anyone else who would like to be a voice for our dolphins, to a ‘World Love for Dolphins Day‘ event to be held at 6:45am Thursday 12th February on our very own pristine Mollymook Beach.

.

World Love for Dolphins Day is a National event organised by Sea Shepherd in an attempt to bring our concerns to the doorstep of the Japanese government. Together we can help stop the slaughter of these harmless, innocent creatures!!!

.

Details of the event are as follows:   When: Thursday 12th February,   Time: Usual swim time 6:45am

.
What will we be doing: We will be taking a group selfie and sending it off to Sea Shepherd. See link: World Love for Dolphins Day Facebook page.
.

There will also be a petition available for whomever would like to sign it that will be forwarded to the Japanese Embassy in Australia and the Japanese Government in Japan. There will also be a collection of gold coin donations that will be sent to Sea Shepherd on behalf of the Mollymook Ocean Swimmers to support their hard work over in Taji. Ken will be our photographer on the morning of the event, so bring any props etc that you think would enhance the “photo shoot” ?
