1922 Police and beach inspectors patrol the beaches checking to ensure that the lady’s costumes are no more than 6 inches above the knees.

.

Fast forward to 2015 and the Mollymook lady swimmers are now the ones patrolling the beaches, and more importantly have taken over rowing the surf boats which in former years was solely a male domain. Go the Mollymook Lady Ocean Swimmers! (Click on images to enlarge)

Mollymook 2014 Swimmer of the Year

Mollymook was well represented at the recent Cole Ocean Swim Classic with none other than their swimmer of the year, Raymond. Expecting to start in the first wave with the elite swimmers, it is understood that he humbly acquiesced to start with similar age swimmers to himself in wave 13.

Being hampered by some of the slower swimmers in the earlier waves he did an admirable job to finish 856th in a field of 1,039 swimmers.

He continues to do us proud.

Ocean swimmers endure traffic chaos

1. The Mollymook ocean swimmers navigate chaos dodging the the ‘board and ski’ team who were also going through their paces prior to their successful Branch Surf Carnival success.

2. One image lacking in our photo library is that of the eloquent mercurial Mollymook ocean swimmer Graeme W. joining fellow swimmers for coffee each morning at the ‘Beach Hut’ Cafe. Word has it that he forgot his thermos one morning and was a little sheepish fronting Teresa for a free coffee on a fellow swimmers coffee card.

Triathletes and Marathon Athletes

1. The Triathlons are well and truly underway for year 2015. Pictured below are the three generations of the Argent-Smith family competing at Temora early February. Bruce, son Richard and grandson Hugh. Their next competition was at Huskisson on weekend February 21 and 22.

2. Bob White presenting a $500 cheque for Interplast from Milton Ulladulla Rotary club to Jonathan Schaap who organised the Mountain to the Sea Mollymook marathon on 13 December. The marathon was to raise funds for Interplast Australia and New Zealand.
It was a family effort with organising help from parents Ice and Maria Schaap and brother Harm. Picture has some of the marathoners who also do surf club patrols. Jodie Toghill, Cloe Scott, Eliza Green, Bob White, Jonathan Schaap, Harm Schaap Melissa Holt
Rotary with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons founded Interplast in 1983 and continues to this day on their board. Nearly 200 Rotary clubs in Australia and New Zealand continue to financially support Interplast.

Bermagui Photo Shoot

Photo shoot for Malvern Star bicycles required a mature aged photogenic model riding a Malvern Star bicycle to remind people of this once famous bicycle. (Having begun production in 1902 they went on to become a household name in Australia during the old days however their Australian bicycle building ended in 1987, with Malvern Stars imported in latter years).

Fast forward to 2015 and thanks to Jo and her Malvern Star we have this memorable advertisement.

Mature Aged Parties

After two very enjoyable ‘Mature aged parties’ during February, thanks to Graeme/ Suzanne and John /Jacqui, conversation subsequently arose on how could you best describe ‘Mature aged parties’?

Ken’s description:

  1. They usually begin at about 6.30 pm, b. Finish between 9.00 and 10.00 pm, c. Drugs are totally taboo, not even a consideration, d. No smoking, e. No swearing, f. Generally fit and healthy specimens, g. Enjoy alcohol without over indulging, h. Intelligent conversations, i. Lovely memories, usually discussed repeatedly with the onset of old age.

Ross’s description:

  1. Usually begin about a week before, when the first guests arrive on the wrong day, then constant reminders for the rest of the week.
  2. First guests start leaving around 8.00 “have to feed the dog” “put the cat out” “left the gas on I think” all the usual excuses when really they don’t like the food or have drunk their wine and have to go home and watch ‘My Kitchen Rules’ repeats.
  3. Drugs are usually taken in the morning with food, eg heart medication, cholesterol reduction, diuretics, etc or just before bedtime, eg viagra, hornygoat weed etc,
  4. Only smoking going on is when the sausages are left on the bbq too long which is then an acceptable excuse for some.
  5. Swearing.
  6. Generally fit into loose comfortable clothing and send specimens to the pathologists for testing
  7. Enjoy alcohol without over indulging in food.
  8. Intelligent conversations, until the second drink then absolute rubbish after that.
  9. Lovely memories, most of them false, definitely discussed repeatedly and repeatedly with the onset of inebriation.

Wollongong Surf Club Centenary Celebrations

All roads led to Wollongong February 13, 14 and 15 for a full weekend of activities. Listed in their “Hall of Fame” were the 1961-62 Australian Junior Champion surf team. 54 years after these teenagers took out all Branch, State and Australian championship events, they posed for a photo ‘Ageing Gracefully’.

Valentine’s Day 2015

Mollymook Ocean Swimmers took the opportunity to spoil their wife / partner on Valentine’s Day. One ‘punter’ was seen hand picking Frangipani flowers at the rear of the Milton Courthouse on the morning of Valentine’s day. Raymond reported seeing a young swimmer buying Roses from the Milton Florist, whilst another middle aged punter cooked up a magnificent crayfish / seafood dish.

Not to be outdone, ‘Bachelor Boy’ Craig flew his young maiden from Perth for a rendezvous in Melbourne, choosing exclusive accommodation and spending time exploring the local Vietnamese and Cambodian restaurants in search of those elusive special dishes they were treated to a few weeks earlier when they first met in Indochina.

Monica and her huge entourage

With relatively no advertising Moni was overwhelmed to see over 40 friends of Dolphins turn up to support her ‘Save the Dolphin Day’. It has been suggested that perhaps an article in the local paper a day or two prior to ‘Dolphin Day’ 2016 would draw hundreds of supporters for Moni’s worthy cause.
