Craig’s story: ISOLATION IN THE WEST

Craig shares his story: Retirement then Isolation in the West

Mollymook Ocean swimmers,mollymook news,mollymook beach waterfront,destination mollymook milton ulladulla,mollymook

Hullo Mollymook aquatic comrades from Craig and Steph over in Perth, the safest city for quarantiners in the apocalypse!

Not too long ago we were in Cape Arid east of Esperance with no one, it was like being in nudie swim heaven. Later we were looking forward to helping out at the Karijini Experience in central WA over Easter. Then the govt. prepared to shut up the regions so we hightailed it to the city!

We moved to our friends’ East Fremantle Airbnb where the Swan river and mile long beaches are 2 minutes away where we can do long swims and kayak, all guaranteed shark free! We have been doing a 40 k ride most days around the river though I do miss decent hills and waves!

We also have our gorgeous granddaughter Olive to entertain and be entertained by! Steph knits 🧶 but I need a project so I’m painting her house in Fremantle and whittling knives in the garden.

We social distance by keeping a bike distance apart and shop in the senior’s hour when it’s really necessary 😷 to venture out.

Take care everyone and keep your distance! (I mean that in the nicest possible way). Retirees, Craig and Steph.

ISO DAZE by Dr Sues – Memories

ISO DAZE by Dr Sues

Mollymook Ocean swimmers, mollymook news, mollymook beach waterfront, destination mollymook milton ulladulla,COVID-19,staying connected

Memories: Dr Sues in times gone by sharing her birthday at the Beach Hut cafe. Wine, cake and plenty of banter.

First came shock, then came horror

No coffees, no chats, no meeting tomorro?

Our swimming family was to be temporarily disbanded

COVID-19 left us numb and stranded.

But, our strength and commitment to our swims and our mates

Has seen us evolve and adapt to our fates.

We’ve managed to pair up into twos or, ahem, threes

And continue our swimming in these beautiful seas.

Yes, we’ve managed to keep our spirits strong,

Swimming in twos instead of a throng.

Big Gary, Lloyd and new dad Ed

Well, they can’t wait to jump out of bed.

They race to the beach, and swim so fast

The rest of us can’t ever get past.

Helen and Neil have fled to the coast

Escaping from Canberra – well, the politicians most.

Isabel joins them for a sneaky three

And if anyone tells, she simply dives under the sea!

Young Johnny Louth, with Raymond in tow

Well, they are taking their mornings slow.

They wander down about eight or so

Then swim to the tree, or, just to and fro.

Treading Water, isolation Charleville, Qld

Mollymook Ocean swimmers,mollymook news,mollymook beach waterfront,destination mollymook milton ulladulla,Charleville

John Sarich’s isolation story from outback Charleville, Queensland.

Hi Mollymook Ocean Swimmers. All is very quiet in Charleville.

Being a bit of a hermit, social distancing is pretty easy for me.There are no tourists in town which is tough as this is peak tourist time. Another shop has just closed down in town.

The weather here is remarkable at this time of year, temp ranges low teens to high twenties and low thirties every day. No clouds, no wind. No more rain until next summer.

I recently went for a drive out into the bush for a brief change of scenery. I came across a dead python. Poor thing, a Woma Python, which is a desert python. These guys eat other pythons. It has wide stripes, like a tiger shark, but its head is a stunning gold and black.

I was going to take my caravan to my new home beach , Agnes Waters. Its only and 800 km drive, but Covid-19 put a halt to that.

Its an awesome spot and I can highly recommend a visit if you haven’t been. Its the last surfable beach heading north on the east coast of Qld. Til next time, all the best , ciao. John

Bill’s COVID-19 VIRUS towel changing trauma

Billy Rushton shares his story

Billy Rushtons trauma from the COVID- 19 VIRUS:     The ‘towel changing technique’

“Crikey!” So we’ve been warned about congregating after our morning swim. I hope I didn’t play a part, practising Helen and Neil Gray’s towel changing techniques. I think there may have been a couple of rather lewd moments on my part.

Without further embarrassment to myself and others I took myself  armed with beach towel to a secluded part of the sand hills at Nth Narrawallee for a little more private towel changing practice.

Sitting down on the beach towel, at one with nature, I looked out towards the ocean swell sparkling like diamonds in the morning sunlight. Majestic in perfect formation, as they neared journey’s end crashing in a crescendo of froth and foam at the approaching shoreline.

I sat there in silence gazing up at the cloud formations playfully scudding across a sapphire sky that blends as one into the oceans distant horizon.

Suddenly this serenity came to an abrupt end; I was bitten on the bum by a bloody bull ant.

With a shriek I jumped up, my back went into a full Corona lock-down. Shuffling back to the car half naked wrapped in the damn beach towel I had to be driven by Bianca to an acupuncturist who was the only person that would see me because of the current lock-down laws.

Dr Katie’s insights into the COVID-19 Virus

Coronavirus has significantly changed the lives of the people on the NSW South Coast

Mollymook Ocean swimmers,mollymook news,mollymook beach waterfront,destination mollymook milton ulladulla,Dr Katie Macartney,mollymook

Dr Katie Macartney

Coronavirus has significantly changed the lives of the people of the south coast of NSW and the entire world this year. At the time of writing, worldwide there have been 2.7 million cases and almost 188,000 deaths, with the USA, Spain and Italy most heavily affected. In Australia, we have had more than 6,500 cases and 76 deaths with NSW hit the hardest. Closer to home, in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven we have 112 confirmed cases but we have now had six consecutive days without a new confirmed case.

Each morning we wake up to hear that the number of new cases in NSW is getting closer to zero (yesterday was five).  This is positive news, and we all start to wonder we can begin to look forward to the relaxing of social distancing, and being able to enjoy ribald anecdotes from Ray over a Beach Hut coffee.

We may be waiting a while.  One way to think about it is: the last day NSW had only five new cases of coronavirus was back on March 7th.  We had much looser social distancing rules then, and within two weeks new cases had jumped to 200. We’re now back at March 7th numbers, but (somewhat depressingly) what’s protecting us from going around again is social distancing.

For this reason social restrictions may grind on for a while as governments will be wary of another outbreak. The second-wave of Coronavirus is real; Singapore is an unfortunate example.  On 22 March, Australia had 537 new cases of coronavirus, while Singapore (which went into lockdown much earlier) only had 23.

Helen’s challenge to the men in Isolation

Helen provides an initiative for the men whilst their in Isolation

Helen writes: “Having been reminded on so many occasions of you swimming guys changing behind your towels each morning (ever so awkwardly) and now attempting to change in two’s, (Government regulation) I’ve decided to have Neil practice how to do it at home in a gentlemanly manner.

Considering all you morning ocean swimmers changing behind your towels in two’s, I thought if you could do some practice, you would get better at it.

So, I’m challenging you men to follow Neil’s example and do practice at home whilst you have so much time to fill in during the day.

Here is a link that will teach you guys ‘how to change behind your towel’, being creative with your various movements”.

Stuck in Australia: A different isolation for Lena

Having finished high school in 2017, Lena chose to spent her gap year during 2017 – 2018 here in Australia. She took on a ‘live-in’ child minding job for a professional couple at Milton. Loving her sport, she joined the Mollymook surf club and swam daily. She subsequently returned to Germany to commence University undertaking a primary school teaching degree.

In 2020, she was given permission to do her practical teaching overseas for a month. She arrived in Australia late February and as was her custom, headed straight to Mollymook beach every morning for a surf. Due to return to Germany late March 2020, her plane was cancelled due to the Corona Pandemic and here she remains, isolated on the other side of the world on an island called Australia.

Mollymook Ocean Swimmer, Peter the Priest shares his Isolation Story

Peter’s story from the Nightcliff N.T. Parish

Hello to all you wonderful Mollymook Ocean Swimmers,

I was hoping to come down in July … but alas, who knows if it is possible.

As the church buildings are closed and people aren’t allowed to attend services, we have been live-streaming on YouTube which can be seen later on demand.

So, the church has become an amateur studio and I have become an amateur Tele Evangelist! (photo below)

For the Easter Vigil mass, we attached a battery candle to each chair to represent the parishioners. (photo below).

It’s starting to head into the dry season which is of course the best time of the year.

The last row of photos: I am getting back into bike riding so I need to repair my bike, had two flat tyres the last time I ventured out. You see plenty of Frill neck lizards up here, they are a wonderful part of this suburb.

With the Golf courses closed, myself and a mate are doing some practice (exercise in two’s) on the local school oval.

And the last photo is from a couple of years ago, but worth adding to this email. Its of the snake I found in my shower, I didn’t realise it until I started to look up at the shower head!!

Miss you all and look forward to catching up again.

God bless, Fr Peter Hendriks MSC, Parish Priest, St Paul’s Parish, Northcliff NT

A poet is discovered during Isolation

Filling in Time, Leonie turns her hand to Poetry

Mollymook Ocean swimmers,mollymook news,mollymook beach waterfront,destination mollymook milton ulladulla,Lockhart,mollymook

Leonie the Poet in isolation out Lockhart way

     Leonie in isolation.

Our world has wound down to a very slow pace

When all we can do is remain in our place

We thought in a few weeks this all would be over

And the world could go back to being on clover

When Gladys says now this is the norm

It’s beginning to sink in we have to conform

With technology bringing us Facetime and Zoom

We can bring all our family right into the room

I am zoomed into yoga at the breaking of dawn

And my quilting instructions come in the morn

To see that my friends are quilting with zest

Inspires me onto produce my best

We long for this virus to be under control

To be back with you all will be good for our soul

At this point in time it is out of our reach

But what we really would like is to get to the beach

To walk with our friends and to swim with the fish

When the timing is right will be our first wish

With time on our hands and no one about

We look for a chat when we get to go out

It is a good chance to fit lots of things in

We’ve cleaned out some cupboards and filled up our bin

Sorted the photos and watched some good flicks

And constantly finding something to fix

It is nice to have time to sit down with a cup

And not be concerned that the time is all up

Corona has certainly forced us to stop

And we wait for instructions which come from the top

Always wash your hands is Scomo’s call and we know he just wants to protect us all

Go forward my friends with a cheerful shrug  and long for the day we can all have a hug

Graeme: Self Isolation up at Port Stephens

Graeme and Deborah’s ‘World of Isolation’

Mollymook Ocean swimmers,mollymook news,mollymook beach waterfront,destination mollymook milton ulladulla,Port Stephens,mollymook

Its tough up here in Port Stephens

Greetings: Deborah and I are self isolating like the rest up here in Port Stephens. The area has had about 40 cases of coronavirus , fortunately no deaths. Our two main beaches are closed so a few of us have been exercising ( by swimming) at Shoal Bay. The water has been beautifully clean of late.

During the day I labour away (poorly I must add) doing jig saw puzzles. I’ve attempted one of Hawaii ( surf 🏄‍♀️) and another of the Merewether Baths where I learnt to swim, firstly by mastering  the ‘dog paddle’ stroke.

Stay safe guys, I’ll come down to catch up when this is over.

We have been spending our aquatic time between Narrawallee Beach and both ends of Mollymook. After a hectic week at work, fighting the traffic and finally finding a parking spot, Chris staggered onto Narrawallee Beach, on Easter Saturday, and found a relatively uncrowned spot for his social distancing swim.

Laura shares her story

Here I am bunkered down in Lake Tabourie and after reading the recent swimmers posts I thought to share with you, my isolation activity.

A few weeks ago, I bought a bungy swimming cord so I could keep up my swim training. It’s quite a resistance workout. I swim for about an hour most days in our pool. It’s like swimming against a strong, never ending current.

The water temperature is currently 19 degrees and although it can be physically and mentally challenging swimming on the same spot for a period of time, once I’ve found my rhythm it’s quite meditative.

I’m so glad I managed to get a hold of one of these.

I’m hoping to continue my backyard pool training throughout the coming winter, although I’m not sure how cold it might get.

Miss you guys, stay safe. Love Laura.

Mollymook Swimmer Kaye B. shares her story

The World of Isolation for a single person – The Great Reset: Kaye asks; how are we now to live?

The Great Reset in one’s life: How am I now to live? Not see anyone? This and many other thoughts have been running through my head. We are social beings; how do I change from living like I am use to?

This is a massive reset in lifestyle. I’m not finding it simple, but it’s like the universe is telling me and everyone else, that during this pandemic, we have to change!

Being use to a life of peace, relative prosperity, travel, competition and socialising with fellow swimmers, all of a sudden, I’m to self-isolate. We are being told to change, to stay at home, indoors, no socialising ….

I find it difficult, especially being a single person, humans need one another. We need connection and expressions of kindness.

To adjust to this new ‘norm’ I began spending my time sorting through my photo albums which I will be able to leave for my family when I pass on, which is not soon, I hope.

But I needed some fresh air. Outdoor exercise is permissible so each day I’m now going for a walk. I’ve also got a bike so I have begun riding my bike, sometimes 20 kms in distance.

Having been an ex-Phys. Ed. P.E. teacher, the thing I am missing the most are gym workouts and yoga.

So, I undertook the task to transform my garage into a small gym with an exercise program designed for fun and to keep the muscles flexible and toned.

I would like to share my fitness program with others who may be interested in keeping themselves fit and flexible. Furthermore, it will help keep your mind occupied and happy. All that you need is some room to spare in either your garage or lounge room.

For ideas you can call me on 4455 2737 or 0410 249 388 and I can explain the fit out and provide an exercise program.

Love and miss you all, Kaye Beer.

See pics below of various exercises.
