Take 3 for the Sea, screening ‘Blue’ the film

Take 3 for the Sea,Blue,Blue the film,Mollymook surf club,Mollymook Beach Waterfront

Introduction by ‘Take 3 for the Sea’ guardian, Monica Mudge

.

Blue the feature documentary film screened at the Mollymook Surf Club on Friday evening. It charted the drastic decline in the health of our oceans. With more than half of all marine life lost in the last 40 years and the expansion of the industrialization of the seas, the film set out the challenges we now face and the opportunities for positive change. BUT if we don’t make the drastic changes necessary, it is predicted by 2050 that there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.

Blue the film showed how the oceans are broken, and what can be done to fix them. It featured passionate advocates for ocean preservation, it tackled themes of habitat destruction, species loss and pollution. It was filmed with stunning cinematography in the seas surrounding Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and the US, looking at how the very nature of the ocean is being altered.

The challenge it presented us: The ocean has been the guardian of life on earth, and now it is our turn to be guardians for the ocean.

Moni also mentioned that “We don’t heal in isolation, but in community” and this is the aim of our third ‘One Wave’Event.

The ‘String Bags’ Raymondo & Jan on violin with Antoinette on Cello

Performances every Monday 4.00 pm to 5.30 / 6.00 pm.

(An all ‘Star Cast’ that varies from week to week)

.

Monday December 19, performance in review:

  • Act 1: The effervescent Raymondo on violin playing his Irish reels and jigs.
  • Act 2: Greeted by thunderous applause the next act saw the ‘String Bags’ take to the stage. This threesome consisted of Jan and Raymondo on Violin with Antoinette on the Cello.
  • Act 3: Mike travelled from the ACT playing his ukulele and singing some old time favourite festive songs like ‘Jingle Bells’ etc. He handed out the words and the whole audience joined in and sang along with him.
  • Act 4: The down to earth Jimmy Williams came on stage and sang some old time country favourites whilst playing his American ‘Dobro’ instrument and some occasional background blending of the violin from Raymondo.
  • Act 5: To the hush of the audience, husband and wife team (Dougie and Marlene) took to the stage reciting poetry, fitting for the occasion.

Address: ‘The Star Hotel’ 82 Princes Highway Milton

.

Debrief the following morning at the beach.

  1. Raymondo mentioned how mixed the cast was, all that was missing was someone to do some scripture reading. Sooner than you could blink an eye, none other than Peter the Priest arrives on the scene for his annual sabbatical at Mollymook Beach.
  2. Audience: The variety of performers certainly attracted a crowd that included local luminaries the likes of Dorothy Buck, Gwenda Turnbull, Mike Devlin and Julie Ryan.

The Milton Entertainment Centre with performances every Monday afternoon commencing at 4.00 pm.

Sponsors of the 2016 Mountain to Sea Marathon

.

The 2016 Mountain to Sea marathon was once again an outstanding success with approx. 55 participants including some children who set off on the Pigeon House mountain climb a little ahead of the older participants that included elder statesman Bobby White.  The purpose for this event was to raise awareness and support for charity, principally Interplast and MUD Kids. It was the brainchild of two young boys, Harm and Jonathan Schaap, who were inspired by burns survivor Turia Pitt’s book Everything to Live for. With the assistance of their parents Ice and Maria it became a reality and has become an annual event on the local calendar. To date the Mountain to Sea marathon has raised over $14,000 for these charities.

East Coast Low – dangerous surf conditions

A low pressure system moving south from Queensland and down the NSW coastline brings damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a dangerous surf to the South Coast Tourist mecca, Mollymook. Abnormally high tides are contributing to the dangerous surf conditions with Mollymook beach almost deserted and a few brave-hearts taking time out for coffee at the Beach Hut cafe.

The severe east coast low is predicted to be fiercest on the NSW South Coast on Sunday evening, with electrical ‘Black-outs’ already occurring mid afternoon.

.
“A raucous party album… a total joy to listen to.” Speaker TV (9/10 stars)

Stoneking, electricity! C.W. has stashed his afore-favoured vintage National guitar and banjo combo for a shiny gold Fender and an extra large helping of rock ‘n’ gospel dancehall blues to deliver 12 tracks recorded directly to tape with his full band, his very own hokum wall of sound.
