The young entrepreneur’s Erin & Ben takes on an adjoining shop front overlooking the harbour to further his ambitions bringing ‘wholesome’ food to the Ulladulla locals and the many tourist who visit this beautiful coastal area. Opened a little over a year ago, with enthusiastic young staff and creative food mixes they quickly established the Native Cafe as the ‘cutting edge’ cafe in the local area.
Their most recent innovation besides acquiring the adjoining shop front was to employ one of Bannister’s top chefs to add further variety and eloquence to their menu offerings. Besides all this, the Native Cafe commands the most prestiges location looking onto Ulladulla harbour.
The writer and his friends all agree on one thing, the food and coffee offerings are exceptional. The only difficulty the elderly writer has is getting his head around some of the descriptive names given by these youngsters to the various meals.
A ‘Daybreak Bowl’? It’s obviously that healthy wholesome meal you start the day with!
‘Smooshed avo’? Isn’t that obvious? It’s mashed avocado?
‘Googs on toast’? Silly me, isn’t it another name for eggs?
For dummies like me, my wife says “just read the ingredients and you will quickly see what is in each dish” Alternatively be like my friend, he observes with absolute amazement the spectacular dishes others receive and then says “I’ll have one of them”. Don’t let me put you off. The food and coffee offerings are to be savoured, and like me and my elderly friends, you will keep coming back.
