Spills Galore at the Aussie IRB Titles

Mollymook hosts the National IRB Championships. Day 1 – Heats

The National IRB Championships for 2016 began today at Mollymook Beach. Interstate crews participated as well as a crew from NZ with an estimated overall number of surf life savers participating exceeding 500 from over 40 Surf clubs throughout Australia.

On an unusually hot day for winter, competition was intense here on day one as crews demonstrated their skills in the water at Mollymook showcasing the rescue skills of IRB crew’s in a variety of surf conditions.

The Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB) Titles: Hundreds of competitors from across the NSW state representing over 20 NSW Surf Life Saving clubs, met at the Mollymook Beach on the weekend of July 1 & 2, 2016 for the NSW IRB Racing Titles.

Racing was incredible close with a number of spills from over zealous crews chasing that elusive NSW title. (See images below)

On the weekend of July 22 and 23, 2016 these team will return to compete with an anticipated 500 competitors for the Australian IRB Racing Championships.

2016 – Patrol of the year (2nd year in a row)

President Rod Austin thanked club members once again for their dedication and voluntary service throughout this past season at the 2016 Mollymook Surf Club Presentation night. Rod is pictured with Craig and Kim Matthews. Kim the official surf club photographer captured the evening on camera. We share a small collection of images that capture the contribution made by the Mollymook Ocean swimmers.
