Mollymook Beach Waterfront on the NSW South Coast is one of 179 outstanding tourism operators (link to all finalist) from around Australia competing to be recognised as one of 27 Australian Tourism Award winners on February 15, 2013 in Hobart. Waterfront is competing in the “Hosted Accommodation” category following its success at the NSW Tourism awards in 2012 and previously in 2011.

The grounds are immaculately maintained …. the reception area is simply stunning ….. the awards display is immaculate and tastefully set out …. generous and thoughtful touches extend to the provision of free Mollymook Beach Waterfront postcards and free umbrella loan for guests. And even more thoughtful and stunning is the complimentary provisions for guests which is huge and a freely accessible DVD library in reception …….

The presentation of Mollymook Beach Waterfront is quite simply of the highest standard.
The grounds are immaculately maintained and attractively decorated with a mixture of in ground and potted flowering plants accompanied by attractive artworks cleverly placed around the property. Entering the attractive gated yard from the security camera protected parking area and approaching reception gives a sense of the potential quality of this establishment.
As we entered the gated yard we met June who greeted us warmly, and we were quickly joined by Ken who also greeted us warmly. It is always a good start to any visit to be greeted with a smile, good eye contact and in my case a comfortable handshake. Ken invited us into reception and our initial impression of the property was further reinforced.
The reception area is simply stunning when compared to most reception areas previously encountered, the light walls and floors and lightly contrasting matting allowing the beautiful artworks displayed to take pride of place, the rail lights when operating adding to the stunning effect. The awards display is immaculate and tasteful, and from what has been observed and experienced at Waterfront everything on display is richly deserved. On the awards cabinet are a number of both lovely and useful books for use by guests; surfing guides, a history of surf lifesaving, other pictorial history books, and books describing local walking trails, plus one on sustainable development in yet another nice touch. I noticed a number of items in reception that suggest Ken strongly supports the Surf Lifesaving movement and love of the ocean and surfing comes across quite clearly. Ken was clearly disappointed there was insufficient swell for the Reef Break to ‘work’, and spoke highly of the quality of the surf on the reef. I was impressed when Ken indicated a beautiful photograph of a surfer on a wave on the reef and informed me he had taken it himself. There are numerous neatly displayed tourist brochures available, including a pamphlet indicating where visitors can gain wireless internet access in the area, as the property does not have its own wireless access for clients. The generous and thoughtful touches extend to the provision of free Mollymook Beach Waterfront postcards and free umbrella loan for guests. An even more thoughtful and stunning complimentary provision for guests is the huge and freely accessible DVD library in Reception from which guests can select titles at their leisure. Ron explained that the only important requirement in the reception area was to close the door after dark to prevent insects entering. Our initial positive impressions from parking to reception and the friendly and professional greeting from Ron and June were nothing when compared to the impression created by the room itself.
Words almost fail at the thoughtful design and attractiveness of the room, not to mention the vast array of unexpected complimentary inclusions later discovered; the light coloured tiles, blinds and walls allowing the beautiful artworks to literally embrace you, the light coloured furniture and fit out enhancing the sense of lightness of the rooms. The light coloured fittings are again balanced beautifully through use of slightly darker matting, a slightly darker carpet in the bedroom, and darker tiles in the bathroom contrasted by white wet facilities and just the right amount of stainless steel.
The living area is very functional and exceptionally comfortable, and the view through the glass doors stunning. The kitchenette provides more than sufficient space for food preparation and storage if required, and every one of the extensive array of items provided was spotlessly clean.
Ken took the time to professionally show and explain to us the features and facilities of the room, and then proceeded to amaze us with the attention to detail with which Ken and June operate this unique resort. Ken went through the Guest Information and Compendium booklets with us, providing again an amazing amount of detailed local information on places to eat, places to go and things to do in a manner that demonstrated his first hand knowledge of the local area. The detail in these booklets speaks very highly of the professionalism of the proprietors, and I consider these booklets to be indispensable for guests, providing extensive and detailed local information that as Ken suggested, many locals themselves are unaware of.
The bedroom is beautifully presented with three lighted alcoves housing small sculptures above the King sized bed, beautiful bedside lamps on each bedside table, more breath taking artwork, and a very large and deliriously comfortable bed that makes a stunning centrepiece with its imported Portuguese coverlet and large and extremely comfortable embroidered cushions. The three door built in wardrobe is an eye catching and practical inclusion for storing favourite clothes and a full length wall mirror provides a simple means of examining your evening wear before leaving for dinner. The provision of exquisitely soft bathrobes, spare pillows of a different firmness to the ones on the bed, a spare blanket and an iron and ironing board again demonstrate the extent to which Ken and June extend themselves to ensure the comfort of their guests.
The bathroom is stunningly presented. There are more than adequate towel rails and robe hangers and the stainless steel fittings gleam with clinical cleanliness. The mixer taps in shower and sink provide water of an almost instantaneously perfect temperature and any splash from the shower disappears into an inconspicuous and ingeniously designed floor waste. The room is decorated strikingly and simply with a fish sculpture and a large shell containing complimentary items on the vanity, which is backed by a lighted mirror large enough for couples to pamper themselves simultaneously before going out on the town. There are tissues, a hand wash dispenser, shower cap, soaps, spare toilet rolls, sanitary disposal bags, air freshener, a lined bin, a quality toilet brush and holder and extra bath towels. One striking feature is the shower screen, which unlike many shower screens encountered previously, swings either in or out as required and hence I consider much safer and practical.
The outdoor area is lovely and functional, and remained so even when a southerly buster blew up for a short time on Sunday afternoon; I simply closed the doors and the wind had nowhere to go, so cooking was simple. Ken explained to us that the stairs at the back of the property are not to be used and that access to the waterfront is via the roadway, a mere 4 minute walk as it turned out. I comment on this area below. The lovely tiled area and the small and intimate table setting gave a sense of great spaciousness while still feeling the intimacy of physical closeness. The storage unit that provides the cooking surface is more than adequate to accommodate the George Foreman Grill and the electric hotplate simultaneously, while still leaving room for food service. The inclusion of two beach chairs, two beach towels and a sun reflector in the storage unit were again unexpected and thoughtful surprises, and the clothes airer was used constantly.
As Ken left us he told us he could be contacted at anytime if we required anything at all, and left us to one of the most relaxing and pleasant two days of our lives. We saw Ken and June only intermittently during the visit and despite their living upstairs, felt our privacy was strongly respected.
When checking out Ken and June took the time to discuss our visit, and show us through the other room, which is of the same stunningly attractive character as the room we stayed in. The professionalism of these proprietors was again made evident through the comments made during these discussions, and it is easy to see why Waterfront is booked out for months in advance.
My overall impression of Waterfront is strongly positive, to the point where I can safely say I have never stayed in accommodation so professionally presented or operated. The branded materials throughout were all of a very high quality and always immaculately presented, as was everything else. The many and varied thoughtful and complimentary inclusions, when considered alongside the exceptionally high quality accommodation, place Waterfront in a class of its own. Ken and June richly deserve the many accolades they have received from both guests and their professional industry peers for the quality of their business.

Maintenance issues?
I feel that I am nitpicking even mentioning these matters given the extremely high standard of Waterfront, as they are minor matters only and not evident unless deliberately looked for. As an experienced mystery shopper however I feel obligated to comment.
Sensor lights cover screws rusting in parking area. May cause stains to fascia and spider webs on lights in parking area.

GUEST REVIEWS: “My wife and I are regulars at Mollymook Beach Waterfront Apartments. The view of the surfboarders and the sea from the front is sublime and always changing. The golf course at the back is great as we can stroll onto the course to play at any time without even needing to get into a car.
This is a great location at any time of the year, whether you surf, fish, walk or play golf – or do the lot!
The apartments are beautifully maintained and attention is paid to every detail – from fluffy bathrobes in the bedroom to rubber gloves for the kitchen sink! It’s quiet and the only sounds are those of the sea and the birds.
And the other thing that makes Mollymook a wonderful destination is the very good dining available in the area.
Ken keeps up to date with the dining scene and makes sure that all his guests are also kept up to date. He sends his newsletter out a week or so before arrival so that we can check changes and then book our restaurants in advance.”

This was our fifth or sixth visit and it has always been excellent. Little improvements like a USB charger in the power point and reading light just add to the charm. A new two seater lounge and reclining chair made it even more comfortable. Enjoy the sound of the sea through the night and waken to the glistening sun on the waves whilst you enjoy your breakfast overlooking Golf Reef break. A very generous hamper lasts for 2 or 3 days, a huge range of DVD movies, very comfortable bed and a view you just have to keep watching. Always spotless and a paper at the door each morning. It’s a must! Room Tip: Two rooms, Reef Break or Whale Watch, both are great.

The other reviews say it all about the property, the view etc. The whole set-up is stunning. This hasn’t happened by accident, the owners Ken and June Banks work tirelessly to ensure that their establishment is first class in every way and nothing is overlooked.
Mollymook is a beautiful place with lots of places of interest to visit, and lots of great food available.
The two units sitting into the side of the hill overlooking the beautiful beach are delightfully private and extremely comfortable. Décor is always up to date with very modern touches.
We have visited 4 times and just love this place.

On the first night, we appreciated the very generous hamper and enjoyed some of its contents sitting outside on the deck taking in the amazing views of the garden, ocean and bushland. Watching the sun rise and the early morning surfers catching breaks, was a joy to me. We loved everything about Mollymook Beach, people we met, cafes, beaches and walks and so many lovely spots close by. Looking forward to another stay with Ken and June sometime soon.

We first stayed at this amazing accommodation last year. So impressed we rebooked and have just arrived home after spending another wonderful weekend in Mollymook (but not before rebooking for next year) The accommodation is immaculate with beautiful ocean views. A generous ‘welcome’ hamper on arrival includes wine (although hubby was looking for VB) nibbles and a variety of breakfast options. Host’s Ken and June are committed to ensuring you get the most out of your stay. They are generous with their time when it comes to sharing knowledge of the area including places to visit and places to eat. But if you just want to ‘stay in’ grab the binoculars take a seat (pour a wine) and maybe you’ll see a dolphin or two. Just a perfect place to stay.

We had a perfect week at Mollymook Beach Waterfront. It is beautifully sited with a picture book view over the water and with the beach, beach golf course and clubhouse very nearby. Ken and June gave us all the information we needed, and were very welcoming, while respecting their guests’ privacy. The apartment was immaculate and had a full starter hamper which was much more than a starter. Access to wifi and laundry facilities was very convenient. We would love to come back here every year. We would not miss a stop in Mollymook and certainly would not stay anywhere else when we return.

The accommodation was absolutely lovely, and incredibly well equipped. The ‘starter hamper’ was beyond our expectations, and we couldn’t actually get through it all over the two days that we were there. The bubbles and cheese and crackers on arrival were much appreciated (and much needed) after the car trip down from Sydney. My husband – an avid golfer – loved the fact that we had to drive through the middle of the golf course to get to the accommodation! Unfortunately, as we have children (who are keen to learn to surf!) the next we come down we will have to stay elsewhere. But for couples looking for an escape away from their children (or the noise of other people’s children), this is perfect. My only regret is that we didn’t have time to explore the fantastic DVD collection provided!

My partner and I had a wonderful long weekend at Mollymook Beach Waterfront. The Golfie surf break was irresistible to my partner who surfed each morning and afternoon. I enjoyed watching him from the supplied deck chairs while catching some sun and was lucky enough to see dolphins and whales- the binoculars definitely came in handy- which again were supplied. It is a beautiful apartment with amazing decor but more importantly the feel and look of the place is the most relaxing and comforting we’ve ever stayed at. You come away from a short stay feeling totally relaxed, rejuvenated and totally spoilt. We just loved the place and everything it has to offer, no matter what the season. Reading all the rave reviews before our first holiday 2 weeks ago at Ken & June’s Mollymook Beachfront Whale Watchers villa, we knew what to expect.
Deluxe accommodation, meticulous attention to detail & outfitting of the apartment, information galore, entertainment on tap & beautiful views. We experienced all of that & more.
No stone has been left unturned by Ken & June to ensure their guests want for nothing – but to relax in sheer bliss.
We even thought or clever hosts had organised for the Dolphin “swim past” each morning & the sighting of whales spouting in the distance.
Sometimes it was just as pleasurable cooking dinner at home on the George Foreman grill as dining out. However we still have more restaurants & cafes, carefully researched & rated by Ken, to try when we return, and return we will!!!

Loved our stay here! 4 of booked both units for a 40th birthday, girls’ weekend away. It was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed, including info on the area. The scenery and watching the dolphins and surfers really was a tonic but the best thing was being able to have the 2 units to our selves for privacy. My partner and I were lucky enough to score an apartment at late notice (due to a cancellation) at what would have to be one of the cleanest, friendliest and well equipped places we’ve stayed.
Ken and June were great hosts and were more than happy to give us a few pointers and show us around the room and facilities upon our late arrival on Friday night.
The beautifully decorated room itself included everything you needed for a hassle-free weekend escape, from the enormous DVD selection to the complementary breakfast supplies and snacks. Everything has been well thought out and delivered to the highest standard. It was obvious Ken and June take a lot of pride in these apartments and in ensuring guests thoroughly enjoy their stay.
The apartments overlooked a great spot on Mollymook beach where you could sit for hours, relax and take in the amazing views. The apartments are only a quick walk to the Golf Club or short drive to trendy cafes and restaurants that are scattered throughout the area.
We take our hat off to Ken and June and what they have established here in Mollymook. We would not hesitate recommending this little gem to anyone we know. We both look forward to visiting again in the future!

We picked this place based on the fantastic views on TripAdvisor and it definitely did not disappoint! We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and full of useful local information to help make our stay in Mollymook fantastic.
The view: 10/10 – if you want a private location where you can sit on the balcony or on the couch and have a perfect view of the ocean, then this is your place. we enjoyed a BBQ dinner watching the waves roll in and had breakfast both mornings out on the balcony.
The apartment: clean, tidy, modern and perfect for a weekend getaway. Although there was not a full kitchen there was definitely enough cooking facilities for what you need. We used the BBQ outside to cook dinner and breakfast (making full use of the amazing location).
We were also pleasantly surprised with the breakfast hamper advertised. We were greeted with bacon, eggs, juice, milk, coffee, chocolate, and other snacks to use on our stay! the daily newspaper delivered to our door was also a plus!

Overall my husband and I would highly recommend “Mollymook Beach Waterfront”. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely be back!

We have stayed in this property every year for the past 4 years and once mid year. The two apartments are very similar and both have to be rated five star. In “Reef Break” you can lie in bed and watch the ocean, whilst the bedroom in “Whale Watch” is more separate to the rest of the apartment. Very comfortable bedding, spacious lounge area, well equipped kitchen facilities (not a full kitchen) and a balcony with a fabulous view. Just a short stroll to the Bogey Hole for snorkeling or that distance again to the ocean beach. Great restaurants in nearby Ulladulla or Milton when you want to dine out. Ken and June, the owners, will go out of their way to assist you with anything. Thoroughly recommended.

We have just returned from five days at Mollymook and were very impressed with Ken and June’s beautiful apartments, which they have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into, and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome.
The apartment we stayed in was modern, immaculately clean, fitted out with quality furnishings and linen and best of all had a spectacular view over the reef break. We were pleasantly surprised by the very extensive breakfast hamper which contained bacon, muffins, cereal, eggs, milk and more, and the welcome hamper which had wine, chocolates and savoury snacks, to name a few. There was a very comprehensive compendium of information about local attractions and restaurants, and Ken was a font of knowledge about the area. We tried quite a few of the restaurants on his recommendation, and we weren’t disappointed.
The weather was gorgeous so we spent plenty of time lying in the sun and at the beach, or just watching the surfers (and dolphins), but Ken and June have ensured there are plenty of rainy day activities too, with a range of books, magazines and DVDs available.
Previous reviewers have pretty much covered this fabulous getaway, but just wanted to add my very positive experience. We look forward to returning one day.

My partner and I were given a 2 night stay for Christmas from my parents last year. We had a Friday afternoon & night, full Saturday and night and left Sunday mid morning. Arriving at check in time we were let in by Ken’s daughter who was very helpful, showed us all the info and DVDs the front foyer, told us about things in the area and gave us the keys.
Wow, what outstanding accommodation! The Reef Break apartment was presented immaculately with close attention to detail and a high standard of finish. The bed and lounge were super comfortable, I loved the shower head and of course, the view from inside and out on the deck was just beautiful. We spent the Friday afternoon on the deck watching the surfers (as we did a lot on the weekend as there was a good swell running most days) then went to Rick Steins for Friday night dinner. We were lucky to see dolphins both mornings while we were breakfasting on the deck on grilled bacon, eggs and English muffins from our beautifully supplied hamper. There are binoculars thoughtfully supplied and also the paper to read. On Saturday we went for a long walk along Mollymook Beach and had lunch and coffee from the cafe at the surf club….can fully recommend the flat head tails with chips! It was a comfortable distance from the apartment and after wandering back and spending a relaxing afternoon lounging about we drove into Ulladulla for dinner. We came back to the apartment to a glorious full moon on the water which we conveniently could look at from the comfort and warmth of the lounge. Sunday morning was another beautiful sunny day so we had breakfast outside again and watched the surfers and dolphins until it was time to leave. Believe me, we could have stayed all week, it was so quiet and peaceful there and very hard to drive home after such a wonderful weekend in sensational apartment! Thanks for such a beautiful, quality place to stay, I certainly have nothing to criticize, only praise and can only hope that we’ll be back. Ps I also loooved the pistachio shortbread :).

We spent a wonderful 4 days over Easter at the Beach Waterfront. All we can say is the room,, facilities and views are exactly as described on the website. We watched surfers on Good Friday and Dolphins on the Saturday from the deck. The bed was the most comfortable of all the places we stayed. The ” breakfast hamper” (which is a very poor description) had everything you could possibly wish for and more! The chocolate was delicious!
Ken and June are both extremely knowledgeable and helpful. There are always keen to make the stay as enjoyable as possible and our only regret was the one night we did not take up their suggestion of where to go to eat!
We really hope we will have the opportunity to return..
