Amazing Lunch Specials at ‘Small Town Provisions’

 

Guests recently stayed at Mollymook Beach Waterfront during January for three weeks. They loved eating out at our best restaurants, not once, but on many occasions experiencing the BEST that Mollymook Milton Ulladulla offer. They loved Gwylo, Small Town, the Rick Stein Restaurants, the Altar Bar and their surprise was Small Town Provisions. So impressed were they with their accommodation at Mollymook Beach Waterfront, on departure they gave the proprietors, Ken and June a ‘Gift Voucher’ to Small Town Provisions.

Ken and June were amazed, they took these following pics to illustrate the beautiful lunch they enjoyed, accompanied by fine wine at ‘Small Town Provisions’.

‘Small Town Provisions’ is a hidden gem in Milton, NSW.

 

The Mollymook Milton Ulladulla area has some incredible eating outlets. The ‘Rick Stein’ restaurant at Bannisters, Mollymook was first to really place this local area on the tourist map for fine dining. This has been followed by exceptional restaurants, Gwylo (formerly operating as Tallwood) and Small Town (formerly operating as St Isidore) often acknowledged by ‘Good Food’ guide with a HAT to signify their quality of food and service.

I am a local and as ‘Editor of the Mollymook News’ I like to share, and bring to the attention of our visitors some of our exceptional eating venues that may go un-noticed.

‘Small Town Provisions’ is one such outlet. Newcastle tourist, guests of Mollymook Beach Waterfront love exceptional food, they had lunch at ‘Small Town Provisions’ on Friday, January 7 and spoke so eloquently, full of praise about this beautiful outlet down the side street of Milton (Wason Street) which is not on the main drag and I’m sure is un-noticed by many visitors. In fact Rod and Marla were the only guests during the time they had lunch. My wife and I went for lunch the following day, we were first seated but other guests arrived and they were full at the time of our leaving.

We found the menu small BUT nonetheless more importantly, the food was amazing. 

Our 1st course was a shared plate of ‘Salt & Paprika Squid Aioli’. Our rating, an absolute 5/5.

Our 2nd course was a shared plate of  ‘Ortiz Sardines Espelette Toast’. Again our rating, an absolute 5/5. 

Two courses shared were sufficient, however we had already ordered a 3rd course, a shared plate of ‘Fromage Du Jour’. Again 5/5.

Quality, up-market alcohol is also available to enjoy with your menu selections. Verdict: ‘Small Town Provisions’ is highly recommended.

Meals delivered to your home during ‘lock-down’

Citrus Catering – canapés: (L to R) 1) Yellow Fin Tuna, 2) Chipotle Crab Taco,  3) Caramelised Beetroot, Fetta, Walnut Tartlet and 4) Peking Duck Pancake. 10/10 for taste, variety and presentation. These canapes rank with the best I have ever previously enjoyed. They were amazing and we were able to enjoy them in the luxury of our own home.

Chef extraordinaire, Matt Upson opens his latest venture: Gwylo Restaurant, Mollymook

The name ‘Gwylo’ was Matt’s nickname working as a chef in Asia which he remembers as an ‘epic experience’. Matt has a super impressive background, having originally worked in South Australia for Cheong Liew, Simon Bryant and thereafter stints at Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island and Capella,at Lord Howe Island.

In 2010, after having travelled extensively through Asia, he and his partner moved to the south coast and open Tallwood in 2013. Tallwood was an outstanding success ranking among the best in the local area. Now 2020, Matt steps out to showcase his latest venture, the highly anticipated Gwylo Restaurant.

Gwylo is an ‘Asian Fusion’ style restaurant with an ever changing menu of ‘punchy Asian street food flavours’.

According to ‘Wikipedia’ “fusion food has become very popular as it offers culinary adventures based on unique and distinctive tastes, to the mainstream culinary culture. Food Fusion is a form of cooking that combines contrasting culinary traditions or techniques into a single dish. In Australia, due to the increasing influx of migrants, fusion cuisine is being reinvented and is becoming increasingly the norm at numerous cafes and restaurants, with Modern Australian Asian-fusion restaurants like Tetsuya’s in Sydney ranking highly in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.”

our bread
As the name says, our bread only contains three ingredients – organic flour, purified water and sea salt. Our organic bread is authentic sourdough as we use a natural leaven. We don’t add baker’s yeast, or anything else you wouldn’t expect – we believe good bread should be made using the purest of ingredients.

We keep it traditional – our artisan bakers cut no corners when it comes to their method: Shaped and moulded by hand, our breads are left to rise for hours in willow baskets and baked to produce authentic European handcrafted sourdough.

We believe in using the best ingredients available to us – no shortcuts. We source products from suppliers that are like minded and respect their product and take pride in what they are doing. Where we can, we use local ingredients, and sometimes we are even lucky enough to be given home grown produce from customers, whether that be a laden apple tree or herb garden. We respect the seasons and what the farmer has in abundance, we turn into delicious jams and preserves.
