The Mollymook Australia Day Festival was cancelled due to overnight torrential rain which flooded the Mollymook Beach reserve causing organisers to cancel the formalities, entertainment and market stalls.

Once the rain had cleared by mid morning the locals kept their traditional Australia day celebrations ‘Mollymook Style’ down at Mollymook beach with their family enjoying the surf, sun and sand accompanied by their traditional mid-day BBQ.

Mollymook Swimmers & their traditional Australia Day Ocean Swim

Tuesday morning saw the surf club youngsters training in the ocean for the NSW Country Surf Titles due in a fortnights time. They were soon followed by the early morning ocean swimmers doing what they traditionally do every Australia Day, their morning ocean swim. By mid morning the sun was shining and many families made it to Mollymook beach for surfing and swimming.

News from Fingal Bay:

Graeme reports from Fingal Bay that he has been extolling the qualities of Mollymook beach to his new ocean swim group at Fingal Bay. (they call themselves the wharfies for they use to swim from the wharf at Shoal Bay but no longer do , though they have retained the old name)

Graeme said; “I have them excited about the area (golf, swim, wines, restaurants etc) such that when I put it to the guys over coffee today, that we arrange a visit to Mollymook, they all showed genuine interest in coming down en-mass to visit the area and meet the ocean swimmers.

I showed them Mollymook web post on the new year’s day swim and they liked what they saw. So you never know Teresa might have few more hungry swimmers to contend with sometime in the future. I’ve set this as a 2016 goal of mine to pull off. Here’s hoping regards”, The Generous Wolfman
