Ulladulla Food & Wine Festival

The Ulladulla Harbourfeast food and wine festival held on November 4 & 5, 2011 at the Ulladulla Civic Centre adjacent to the Ulladulla Harbour was an outstanding success.

It featured creative cuisines from our area’s finest restaurants, cafes & producers, along with a very special selection of wines from a variety of local wineries. The cultural experience was enhanced by a variety of performing artists providing live entertainment throughout the day. Mollymook Beach Waterfront accommodation guests from Wollongong and Canberra had planned to spend a lazy hour at the festival and were so impressed and entertained stayed on and spent the entire day sampling the wine, produce, food and entertainment on offer.

Dolphins at Mollymook Beach Waterfront

The (above) pic was taken in front of the Mollymook Beach Waterfront Reef Break apartments. Whereas the large pod of dolphins (below) including young ones visited Mollymook Beach in front of the surf and golf club. The ocean swimmers swam out to be among the dolphins at Mollymook as they entertained many onlookers including tourist.

According to ‘Wikipedia’ there are 40 extant species named as dolphins. Dolphins are known to be extraordinarily intelligent animals who also display culture, something which was long-believed to be unique to humans (although now recognised in various species). Dolphins are altruistic they have been known to stay and help injured individuals, even helping them to the surface to breath. The Bottlenose dolphins are the most common and well known type of dolphin and can weigh up to 650 kg.

Mollymook dolphins are very most popular, with their beautiful streamlined bodies, friendly ‘smiley’ faces and intelligent behaviour. They are a relatively common sight along the entire NSW coastline. This species’ dark grey back and light grey belly colouring acts as camouflage and helps protect them from attacks by their natural enemies – killer whales and sharks. They can often be seen in bays and estuaries opening to the sea, and also ‘surfing’ in waves as they are forming and breaking.

Mollymook Beach outdoor gym – Icon Park.

An outside gym for adults became a reality for the fitness enthusiasts this past week with the installation of extensive out door gym equipment at Mollymook Beach opposite the Mollymook Beach View accommodation and adjacent to the Mollymook Surf Club and Mollymook Beach Hut cafe, an area that has become a tourist mecca. Local fitness expert Bret Crockett has given it the “thumbs up”. It should prove an excellent acquisition for use by locals and the touring public.

Local Mollymook Milton Ulladulla Markets

The local Mollymook markets, Milton markets and Ulladulla markets are a haven for bargain hunters as well as the astute buyer with an amazing and varied collection of 1000’s of items from home cooking to fresh produce, arts & crafts, surf art and photography, clothing, tools (2nd hand and new), jewellery, plants, shrubs, gift items and the list is almost endless. Suffice to say there is something for everyone and especially enjoyed by the Mollymook Beach Waterfront tourist visiting the area

The Ulladulla markets are held at the picturesque Ulladulla Harbour, Mollymook markets at Mollymook Beach and Milton markets at the Milton Showground on the following dates.

Milton Markets are held on the 1^st Saturday each month, and Easter Saturday at the Milton Showground.

The beautiful Mollymook Beach is the location for the Mollymook Markets that occur on the fifth Sunday of the month, about four times per year plus Australia Day. It is a large market that attracts so many vendors with all the goodies you could imagine, ranging from plants, clothing, homemade foods, art and craft items to handyman tools.

The Mollymook market, Ulladulla Markets and Milton markets are all organised by the local Lions Club. Tourist and local visitors to the market are treated to about 120 market stalls, but this can vary from market to market.

When the swell is up you can generally be guaranteed of some ideal surfing Mollymook or surfing Ulladulla area for the surfing enthusiast with exceptional waves in the Mollymook Milton Ulladulla area for surf board riding, body board riding and body surfing.

Mollymook Beach Waterfront accommodation operator Ken Banks donned flippers and swam out with his camera to take some excellent pic’s of the board riders handling these huge swells. Once people begin to learn to surf, its not uncommon to become a little addicted. Just getting out there in the salt water feels so good in itself. Then the adrenalin begins to lock in as you mount that first wave, coming down the face is an incredible feeling, maneuvering to beat the white water break. Once you’ve mastered the basics it’s practise, practise, practise!!!

There are surf board riding clubs up and down the coast where you can join in and make some great friendships along the way.

Whale Watching at Mollymook Beach Waterfront Accommodation

Mollymook Whale watching is best during the September – October period when they are returning with their calves heading south. At this time of the year it is not uncommon for them to put on a lovely display in front of the Mollymook Beach Waterfront accommodation to the delight of tourist / guests.

During their journey north during June and July they are still obvious but usually a little further out to sea and not performing as they normally do on their return journey in September – October as they continue their migration along the NSW coastline.

Now is the best time to witness these majestic creatures. At present there are 100’s of whales moving south with their calves in plain view from our Mollymook accommodation facilities.

This morning 12 were counted in the space of an hour frolicking in the waters off Mollymook Beach. So I paddled out on my surf ski and sat in awe of these gentle giants, I took numerous pictures as you can see on this page which are also presently on display in the Mollymook News.
