The 2016 South Coast Tourism Awards were held on Wednesday 26th October with approx. 240 people in attendance.

As the premier Tourism Event on the South Coast the awards night highlights the hard work that has been done by the thousands of Tourism operators and businesses from Shellharbour to Eden on the South Coast of NSW.

Gordon Beattie, Chairman of Judges, said “The objective of the tourism Awards is to recognise those businesses who strive to offer the best possible product and the best possible service to the Visitors to the South Coast”.

In 2013-14, the tourism industry contributed an estimated $2.0 billion to the South Coast regional economy (8.3% of South Coast’s gross regional product) and directly employed approximately 13,600 people (6.7% of South Coast’s regional employment). The majority (54%) of visitor consumption in the South Coast was contributed to intrastate overnight visitors ($1.5 billion). Source: Deloitte Access Economics

The previous night was exhaustive. Being awarded the ‘Yellow Jersey’, Issi was filled with elation, what an accomplishment? She had so much trouble relaxing and getting some sleep. With about four hours sleep she was nonetheless up bright and early to meet the press and pose for photo’s. Likewise the local Mollymook Ulladulla participants lined up for a group photo prior to embarking on the next stage that would take them through to Mytleford.

Tour de Vic – ‘The High Country’

.

Ross and Jo: Today, Tuesday October 11, marks 30 wonderful years and getting better as they get away for a special celebration.

Ross surprises Jo with a trip to Sydney to watch the Bobby Darin inspired play ‘Dream Lover’ and then off for a couple of days to the Blue Mountains. (Jo tells the story that Roscoe was so keen to obtain permission from her Polish parents that he went and learnt a few words in Polish to enable him to ask the parents in their native language for Jo’s hand in marriage.)

.

Tour de Vic: Mollymook & Ulladulla are well represented in the ‘Tour de Vic’ that is underway in the North East Victorian ‘High Country’.

Starting at Beechworth, the rail trail ride is taking them through to Wangaratta, then into the wine and gourmet region of Milawa, then onto Myrtleford and finally finishing up in Bright. Daily they compete for the ‘Yellow Jersey’ and after much rain over the past six weeks will have some difficult terrain and flooded area’s to navigate. The ride will also allow Simone to earn a few more brownie points (Km’s) in her efforts to raise funds for her chosen charity, ‘children’s cancer’. Stay tuned for a forth-coming insiders report.
