Senior Ocean Swimmers Winery Tour

.
The day started with our usual swim, although our carer for the day swam early with Karelle and Jackie, without a clearance from the board of directors, this will be noted! The bus arrived at Milton with our carer, (Heather) and her able assistant Paul, to pick up Ray,Jo and the special reporter of the day, Young Billy was next, ( solo so he partnered Ray for the day!) then on to Banister Head for the new residents Jacqui, John and the Canberra reps, Helen and Neill.

Our bright eyed and bushy tailed group of the Mollymook ocean swimmers descended upon Cupids winery to start the the annual wine fest tour of the Ulladulla and surrounding district wineries. A collection of on the spot photographs show our brave little band of sippers as the day wore on to slip into a more decadent seasoned lot of motley drinkers.
As you will observe from the accompanying photos all out enjoying the beautiful crisp country air of a South Coast winters morn discussing the venue of the day with Neil & Helen our Canberra connection soaking it all in.

So the day started off rather nicely discussing the various bouquet’s and aromas of some of our districts fine wines on offer.

Cupitt’s was our first destination and we were among the first arrivals at around 10:30am. Not the usual time we start drinking but some one has to set an example. The tasting started slowly in perfect conditions with bright sunshine and a cool breeze, we even mixed coffee and scones with our chardy and Viognier! After tasting all nine wines available and having a glass of our favourite it was back on the bus with our capable driver Mick.

Fern Gully was our next stop, the wine tasting again started slowly until Ray (aka Jack Nicholson} shouted the first bottle of Chambourcin, it was all down hill from there! After listening to the dulcet tones of Hannah and Monica.. I think that’s what they were called! and snacking on some light refreshments, washed down by another bottle of course, it was time to move on. Some were already for a nap, eh Jack! so back on the bus to Bawley.

The gang had arrived

Bawley Estate: After tasting a couple of samples, some more red was purchased along with a few beers and we made our way down to the entertainment area where the Fishheads were just starting their first song. Well they didn’t know what had hit them with the elderly arrivals dancing and singing along with every song, even the young carer joined in with her charges. There were even line dancing classes by Jacqui and Jo.

The downhill slide seemed to have it’s origin when Ray and Bill almost arm in arm started talking gibberish. John gave all a three cheers as he scoffed two glasses in one swift motion. Then Bill with the look of a connoisseur tried to explain to anyone that was silly enough to listen the finer points of white wine tasting while pointing at his bottle of 150 lashes of amber fluid.

Meanwhile our man of many hats our dear Raymond ( I can see why his beloved Janie is a little bashful when it comes to wine tasting excursions ) had to sit down before he slowly sank to the ground, but alas leaving the chair for our transport to the next winery Ray as only Ray can do, gave us an impromptu rendition of the twenty four tipplers crawl to the bus, napkin and all. Our last stop was the Bawley point winery where our intrepid crew tripped the light fandango.

Jack Nicholson again entertained us with his Komodo Dragon imitation and the story of his recent court case. The details of this case cannot be published here for privacy reasons but it involved a duck. By sheer coincidence some of Ray’s, (sorry Jack’s) friends were in attendance on the day. After dropping some of the party off, Ray, Billy, Jo and Ross got a little worse for wear as you can see by the attached photo. Correspondents: Ross, Heather and Billy.
