Fundraiser for the M.U.D. Kids Appeal and Interplast Australia & New Zealand

The Schaap children – Harm and Jonathon assisted by Dad – Ice and Mum – Marja, were the originators of this local Pigeon House to Mollymook marathon event in their endeavours to raise money for the joint beneficiaries (a) the local M.U.D. Kids Appeal and (b) Interplast.

M.U.D. Kids Appeal, is a local community initiative that assists families with sick children who have to travel out of the Milton-Ulladulla area to receive medical assistance. MUD Kids was formed in 2009 to raise funds for three children from the Milton-Ulladulla area who were undergoing cancer treatment in Sydney. It had become apparent that the families of these children were in urgent need of financial assistance, due to long periods spent at hospitals in Sydney, away from home and work. Since that time, MUD Kids has continued to raise funds in order to assist other families in the region who have a child with a serious illness who requires treatment outside the area. For more info visit the M.U.D. web site

Interplast works across the Asia Pacific region implementing over surgical and allied health medical programs and providing free reconstructive surgery for patients who would otherwise not be able to afford access to such services. For more info visit the Interplast web site

Teenage daughters of our ocean swimmers Simone, Cheryl and Monica, namely Chloe, Mia and 13 year old Jade swam the length of Mollymook Beach (first time effort) as well as competing in other legs of the marathon. Jodi although older and not use to swimming in the ocean also put in an amazing effort in her first swim of the Mollymook Beach. Again, after completing the earlier legs of the marathon. It was inspirational!

Simone, Monica and elder statesman Bobby completed every leg of the marathon which comprised:

  • Run to the top of Pigeon House mountain and return. (Approx. time 1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Bike ride from Pigeon House car park to Burrill lake. (Approx. time 1 hour 30 minutes)
  • Paddle SUP across Burrill Lake to Cupitt’s winery. (Approx. time 1 hour)
  • Run from Cupitt’s to North Mollymook Beach (next to Dr Chee) (Approx. 40 minutes)
  • Swim from north to south Mollymook Beach. (Approx. 45 minutes)

All up approximately 5 hour 30 minutes.
