Mollymook Ocean Swimmers Calendar for February 2022

Greg, Sue and Mike are presently organising some exciting ocean swims in February, for the Mollymook ocean swimmers:

On the morning of February 12/13 (will select the actual day, closer to the date when weather conditions are better known) the plan is to swim from Jones Beach (the little beach below Bannisters) to Narrawallee. A picturesque rock reef swim.

On the morning of February 19/20 (will select the actual day, closer to the date when weather conditions are better known) we will have the Welsh Island Classic. The plan is to start in front of Welsh Island, swim around the island then head south to Narrawallee’s south end and return. A magnificent breakfast will be provided by the sponsors of the Welsh Island Swim.

For more specific details, see Greg, Sue or Mike as the dates draw nearer.  😎

Mollymook connection to star at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games

Sami’s family have a holiday home in Mollymook. I sent an email to Sami congratulating her on selection for this year’s 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. She wrote back “Thank you for your warm wishes! It’s a very exciting time indeed! Have a swim for me (at Mollymook) – can you believe that I haven’t been in the water since last May! I even bought a new surfboard in May and have surfed it once before everything was out into lockdown when I was in the mountains!”

Channel 7 news announcement on January 22, 2022 quoted Sami; “I am so proud to have been selected to represent Australia at my third Olympic Games. Having an Olympics in a similar time zone to Australia means that I will feel connected with my friends and family – ski cross is on at prime time so I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone, I’m so excited.”

Even though Mollymook is a fair distance from the snow fields, we have a number of swimmers who make the annual trek to the snowy. Maybe when Sami gets back to Mollymook for a break, we may be able to get her to join us on one of our daily ocean swims at Mollymook Beach and a coffee at the Beach Hut café. Hopefully we will be swimming with an Olympic champ.
