2023 Mollymook Ocean Swim

 

Annual Mollymook Surf Club Charity Ocean Swim, Saturday April 1, 2023

 

Mark the date. Plans have been submitted for approval by the Surf Club organizer’s for this years annual Mollymook Ocean Swim to be held on Sat. April 1, 2023.

Vice President, Mick Hendrie provided the following information:

Planned sequence of Events:

  • 6.30 am Check-ins open for all swimmers inside Mollymook Surf Club Hall.
  • 8.00 am Check-ins close for the 500m swim.
  • 8.15 am Safety briefing for the 500m competitors.
  • 8.30 am 500m swim starts at southern end of Mollymook Beach.
  • 8.45 am Welcome to country from local indigenous man Noel Butler.
  • 8.55 am Safety briefing for the 2.2km competitors.
  • 9.00 am check-ins for the 2.2km swim closes.
  • 9.00 am Bus transport to the northern end of beach begins. (Walking the beach to the north end is also an option)
  • 9.30 am 2.2km swim starts at the northern end of Mollymook Beach.
  • 11.45 am The ‘Dash for Cash’ swim starts at the southern end of Mollymook Beach.
  • 12.00 noon is the presentation.
  • Shortly after the presentation, the bar will open for the remainder of the afternoon.

Mollymook Beach Ocean Swim 2012

Picture perfect weather greeted over 200 ocean swimmers at Mollymook for their annual 2 km ocean swim classic. Provisional winners were: 2 km Classic winner, Brad Horrey from Botany. 500 m novice winner, Cormac Guthrie from Matraville. “Dash for Cash” Brad Horrey from Botany. Worthy of note was the stand out performance of young Illya Vashinsky. Illya is only 10 years old and swam the 500m swim ALL butterfly stroke, and then backed up to finished the 2km swim in 19th place overall.

Illya and each of the winners are all coached by Chad Schneider who also competed doing the butterfly stroke for the 500 metre warm up and then finishing 16th overall in the 2 km classic. Chad brought a team of 30 swimmers to Mollymook this year. He has competed at all 10 Mollymook Ocean Classics and chose Waterfront accommodation and Citrus & Cupitts Kitchen restaurants to celebrate his end of year special South Coast Mollymook “Getaway”.     (Click on images to enlarge)
