Issi – First in the over 70 Female category

Race Results for the Mollymook Competitors

Mollymook Ocean swimmers were represented by their awesome foursome, Graeme, Issi, Sue and Raymond at this years ocean race which was down on numbers following a very strong contingent of 10 seasoned swimmers who competed last year, March 2015. The conditions were ideal for the full ‘length of course’ swim to take place attracting a large field of 267 swimmers.

Issi did Mollymook proud winning the over 70’s ladies: Time – 36 minutes 28 seconds. This result met with thunderous applause from the Mollymook contingent in memory of the ‘Wolfman’ Graeme W. who missed out on the $150 1st prize for the 60 years men age group last year.

Jill Pettifer from Canberra who swims with us at Mollymook during the Christmas Holiday period was first home in the over 60 ladies category: Time – 27 minutes 57 seconds

Sue, Ray and Graeme swam their hardest and recorded the following times.

  • Ray in the over 60 men’s category finished in a time of 35 minutes 39 seconds
  • Graeme in the over 70 men’s category finished in a time of 36 minutes
  • Sue in the over 50 ladies category finished in a time of 36 minutes 25 seconds. (Results and pics provided by Graeme & Sue)

Mollymook March Past Team – Announced 5th

.

An awesome effort by our Mollymook Surf Club March Past team at the 2016 NSW Surf Titles.

John L. reports how the team initially struggled this year with low numbers and the retirement of Tom, the long standing Captain/Coach/Standard Bearer and Ando, our Belt-man.

John continues, “Many a team might have called it a day and disbanded but not the Mollymook marchers. With just a few weeks to go before State Comp at Umina, Rex Russell stepped up as belt-man and marching coach while Barry Page was kind enough to climb out of his surf boat and fill the Standard Bearer role at very short notice for this, our last chance to compete in an event this year.

We were also fortunate to retain part time services of Neville who marches for Burning Palms but travels from Batemans Bay to Mollymook whenever he can, to assist with our coaching.

Well thanks to the efforts of all, we did get to march and achieved a very respectable 5th place, scoring only 3 error points with 1 point separating us from Neville’s Bronze winning Burning Palms team.

That is by far the best performance our team has achieved for many years and a tribute to everyone who tried harder instead of quitting.

I know the team would like to thank Tom for his years of leadership and I’m sure the spirit to do well at Umina was largely driven by a desire to make Tom proud of the team he developed”. (Pics & report from John & Jacqui)
