OneWave is a non-profit surf community tackling the likes of depression, anxiety and bipolar with a simple recipe; get into the salt-water, go surfing, mate ship and group get together’s on ‘Fluro’ Fridays.

OneWave lets people know they are not alone and encourages them to get in the ocean, surf it out and talk about it. Their motto “It doesn’t matter whether you’re riding a wave for the first time or the hundredth time…you never forget the feeling of being on a wave, letting everything go and enjoying the moment. OneWave is all it takes… To free yourself of the ‘demons’ of depression, anxiety and bipolar. To give individuals hope”.

OneWave’s Origin

OneWave Founder, Grant Trebilco records “that after 10 years of battling with mental health issues, without seeking treatment he was hospitalized in 2012 and diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The ocean and surfing was his saviour in tough times when he was released from hospital. He discovered that onewave is all it takes. After hiding mental health issues for years, he decided enough was enough, it’s time to start talking and sharing his experience to try and help others”.

Fluro Friday’s are started by everyday people who wish to see the stigma reduced in their local community.

  • Some of their highlights…
  • There are now over 60 beaches Worldwide that have run a Fluro Friday to raise awareness for mental health and giving people the chance to experience saltwater therapy.
  • 18 of these beaches have created OneWave Communities that run regular Fluro Friday’s (weekly or monthly) to help people free themselves in their local community. This is an increase of 12 beaches doing regular Fluro Fridays since the start of 2015.
  • On OneWave’s 2nd Birthday in March 2015 there were 31 beaches Worldwide that stood together hand in hand to create the World’s largest fluro wave to raise awareness for mental health.
  • Jenny Lunnon organised the March 18, 2016 fluro wave at North Mollymook with over 40 in attendance. The Mollymook fluro wave was dedicated to young Jessica Tolhurst a 14-year-old Unanderra girl who took her own life on December 7, 2015 in circumstances clouded by bullying and depression.

Jenny just posted this report on Facebook: “Yewwww!! We are absolutely stoked by the incredible support from all around the world. What an amazing day! From the Maldives to Tahiti, Mollymook to Byron Bay, Takapuna to Mount Maunganui…together we created the worlds largest Fluro wave with 50 beaches standing together to raise awareness for mental health. Thank you amazing humans for letting people know it’s totally ok not to be ok and ask for help
