Who will be declared the 2019 Swimmer of the Year, and awarded this sought-after trophy?
.
The history behind the trophy is provided by its creator, the affable Mike Gaffney. “I created a perpetual trophy that consisted of a piece of driftwood found on Mollymook Beach. I attached a surf board fin (also found on Mollymook Beach). The wood was varnished and I arranged (with an exclusive Canberra Jeweller) for a bronze plaque with engraved words, The Octopus’s Garden Award – Mollymook Ocean ‘Swimmer of the Year’, to be attached to the side of the coveted trophy.”
