Cupitt’s new initiative: ‘Tour and Tasting’

.

East Coast Low: Destructive winds and surf caused a lot of damage along the coastline during the month of June. Mollymook was spared from the brunt of this low pressure system, and only incurred some minor damage as can be seen from the pic above as  huge waves washed over the break wall depositing seaweed, sand and water onto the corner of Golf Road and Ocean Street Mollymook and the adjacent footpath and lawn. The steps down onto the beach were dislodged and a portion of the fence in front of the surf club demolished. For more info and images, click on this link: East Coast Low

Cupitt’s new ‘Tour and Tasting’ initiative: Ulladulla’s award winning Cupitt’s winery has created an excellent tourist initiative: It is a guided tour of the vineyard, wine cellar, new craft brewery, the fromagerie to see their new cheese making facility and then finishing with wine tasting. Cost $20 per person. I went on the first tour and it was magnificent. For more info and images, click on this link: Cupitt’s tour and tasting experience

Shoalhaven Coast Winter Wine Festival: Wineries across the Shoalhaven opened their cellar doors over the June long weekend for wine tasting, fine food and entertainment. Locally the Bawley Estate and Cupitt’s winery were well attended. Besides the wine tasting, music and a variety of food items available, Cupitt’s also offered a long lunch to celebrate their 9th anniversary. The wine festival is an annual event held on the June, Queens birthday long weekend. For more info visit: Shoalhaven Coast Wine

Driftwood Cafe: Tony Lavalle has taken over the lease of the Driftwood cafe at Milton. I have visited twice in the last few weeks and the menu and coffee is only exceeded by the magnificent views over the country side and out to the ocean. For more info follow the link: Driftwood Cafe

‘Take 3’ for the Ocean: Local ocean swimmer Monica Mudge addressed council this past Tuesday evening seeking the Shoalhaven council support for the ‘Take 3’ initiative. The ‘Take 3’ message is simple: take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or… anywhere, and you have made a difference. Councillors overwhelmingly moved and voted 100% in agreement to adopt and align themselves to the ‘Take 3’ initiative. The Ulladulla Ex-Servo’s Club CEO committed a $1500 donation to give the campaign a ‘kick start’ in the local area. For more info, click on the link ‘Take 3

Whale migration, June 2016 (Pic Jenny Smith-Mayes)

.

Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Racing Titles: Hundreds of competitors from across the state representing over 20 NSW Surf Life Saving clubs, will meet at Mollymook Beach for the NSW IRB Racing Titles over the weekend of July 1 and 2, 2016. This will be followed by the Australian IRB Racing Championships on July 22 and 23 when the number of competitors is expected to skyrocket to over 500.

Whale migration: The annual migration from Antarctic waters to the warmer waters up north is underway. Numerous pods have been sighted almost daily making the trek north during June. Above pic was taken by Mollymook Beach Waterfront guest from her apartment deck. The journey south is usually around September – October when they tend to come closer to shore with their calves and breach to the delight of the many spectators these gentle giants attract.
