Melissa is the daughter of Mollymook Ocean swimmer John Holt and wife Tracy. Melissa has been selected to compete in the Miss World Preliminary Final 2020.

As a part of this journey she will be fundraising for the charity ‘Variety Australia’. Since 1975 ‘Variety Australia’ has been helping the kids who miss out in life due to disability, chronic illness or disadvantage. Variety’s incredible community of supporters have changed the lives of thousands of Aussie kids, giving them what they need to join in life with everyone else.

Inspired by the work of ‘Variety Australia’, Melissa is seeking your support. She writes “Please help me, help them by giving a donation. The more people that know about ‘Variety Australia’, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word with your friends and family. Together we can make a difference. Thank you for your support”.

Claire’s Walkabout story thus far …..

Claire’s travel update to the swimmers: “Upon leaving Mollymook, I met my girl friend in Sydney where we started our road trip up north.

A bit north of Sydney we stayed for a couple of days at a kangaroo rescue farm, where the owner of the farm takes care of little orphaned joeys and lets them free again once they have recovered. We helped him feed the joeys and to look after them. That was an amazing experience.

We travelled further north and visited a lot of beautiful places like Yamba, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Noosa, Rainbow Beach and a lot more. We did a lot of walks and hikes in National Parks and explored the inland too. I loved the National park at Noosa.

On the move again, I really enjoyed Fraser Island, where we stayed a couple of days and went swimming in Lake McKenzie, Champagne Pools and saw Dingoes. After Fraser Island we continued our trip up north and stayed in Bundaberg, Agnes Water, 1770 and a lot more places. I’ve seen so many beautiful places in the last few weeks and met so many wonderful people.

About two weeks ago we did a sailing trip to the Whitsundays for more than a week. We often went snorkelling, swimming, hiking and even climbed up the Lookout at Whitehaven Beach. Australia is so beautiful, in so many ways!

From Airlie Beach we drove to Townsville and did a trip to Magnetic Island. There I saw a lot of Koalas!

A couple of days ago we arrived in Cairns, it is so hot here! In the next few days I would like to do a diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef and then we want to explore Cairns hinterland and all the national parks and walks.

Then our next big stop will probably be Port Douglas. I’m having a wonderful time here but I miss you all back in Mollymook!

How are you all? How is the swimming going and how is it in Mollymook?

I’m not sure yet when I’m going to be back in Mollymook but I’ll let you know as soon as I know. I hope you are all well!  Please pass my greetings on to all the swimmers!” Claire
