Gentleman John accepts Ian’s Challenge

Gentleman John is this kosher?

.

Gentleman John as is his nature was reluctant to accept Ian’s challenge to a foot race along Mollymook Beach. However Ian was persistent and so John graciously accepted. The Beach Hut cafe was crowded with spectators. A mixture barracking for John and others for Ian. The starters gun was fired and Ian had already broken. Completely out of nature with John and too the amazement of the gallery of spectators, John performed and insisted on a restart. Ian thought the start was fair but reluctantly came back for the restart.

John was fired up, out of the blocks he exploded. Part way down the track he was a long way in front. Those that knew John were expecting him to slow down as to not cause to much embarrassment for Ian. But slow down NO! John won by a country mile, daylight was second and Ian a distant 3rd. Talk over coffee was not about how far John won by but whether ‘Gentleman’ was still descriptive.

We reminisced on this ‘Florance Head’ bush walk of the bygone years when Bobby White would arrange our bush walks that included the Castle, Mount Bushwalker, Yadbora, Shallow Crossing, Ulladulla to Batemans Bay to name a few. He would share his decades of National Parks knowledge explaining and naming the different flora and bird life, he would even take a ‘Billy’ and boil some real bush tea. So on this occasion we took a book with directions and descriptions of the flora and fauna. And would you believe on the way back we got lost. Bobby you were missed.
