Mollymook Surf Club: Awarded $5000 for their efforts in promoting the Shoalhaven RID (Report Illegal Dumping) program. The prime mover of this program within the surf club is the effervescent energised Monica Mudge who has also been responsible for the partnership with council in the ‘Take 3 for the Sea’ initiative. viz ‘Take 3 items of rubbish from the beach’. Both initiatives are designed to achieve beautifully clean beaches in the Shoalhaven.

Cupitt’s Restaurant and Winery: The 2016 NSW Tourism Awards were announced on November 25. Cupitt’s Kitchen was awarded the best Tourism Restaurant in the State and also won gold for the Best Winery Brewery and Distillery. Link to: Cupitt’s Kitchen & Winery

East Coast Low: Destructive winds and surf caused a lot of damage along the coastline during the month of June. Mollymook was spared from the brunt of this low pressure system, and only incurred some minor damage as can be seen from the pic above as  huge waves washed over the break wall depositing seaweed, sand and water onto the corner of Golf Road and Ocean Street Mollymook and the adjacent footpath and lawn. The steps down onto the beach were dislodged and a portion of the fence in front of the surf club demolished. For more info and images, click on this link: East Coast Low

Cupitt’s new ‘Tour and Tasting’ initiative: Ulladulla’s award winning Cupitt’s winery has created an excellent tourist initiative: It is a guided tour of the vineyard, wine cellar, new craft brewery, the fromagerie to see their new cheese making facility and then finishing with wine tasting. Best value holiday destination: Online booking agent, Trivago.com undertook a market survey: “Do you want to know which Aussie cities give you the most bang for your buck”? Ulladulla was ranked 3rd in all of Australia. Trivago said of Ulladulla, “It is the activity hub of the region, with surfing, fishing, swimming, diving and hiking all available. A Culinary destination: The ‘Saturday Telegraph, weekend – escape section article wrote about “the the popular towns of Milton and Mollymook quickly becoming a culinary destination. Mollycoddle at the beach: The South Coast Food Alliance held their first event, ‘Mollycoddle at the beach‘ to a capacity filled function centre at the Mollymook Surf Club on Friday evening October 30.

The four founding restaurants: Rick Stein at Bannisters and Tallwood in Mollymook, St. Isidore on the edge of Milton, and Cupitt’s Winery, on the back road between Ulladulla and Milton combined to each present a dish with accompanying wine. It was ‘fine dining’ at its best.

Event coordinator Mel Louth explained that “it was a spring inspired menu and that all four restaurants were incorporating the best locally sourced produce.” For more info, follow the link: ‘Mollycoddle at the beach‘

Bannisters ‘Rooftop Pavilion’: Opened in December 2015 is Bannisters latest addition to the upmarket Mollymook accommodation / dining / entertainment scene. It is located at 87 Tallwood Avenue. It is already attracting rave reviews, follow the link to: ‘Pavilion Rooftop‘.

Ulladulla’s Blessing of the Fleet.

The Ulladulla’s Blessing of the Fleet was held on Easter Sunday April 5 in glorious weather and with an attendence in the 1000’s. The ‘Blessing’ traces its origins back to practices in Italian fishing villages whereby Priests were called upon to ‘bless’ the fishing fleet. In Ulladulla this tradition is continued each year on Easter Sunday. The Blessing is preceded by a huge street parade in the morning whilst the previous night saw the crowning of Hannah Wyatt as the 2015 ‘Blessing of the Fleet’ Princess at the Civic Centre.
