Illya and each of the winners are all coached by Chad Schneider who also competed doing the butterfly stroke for the 500 metre warm up and then finishing 16th overall in the 2 km classic. Chad brought a team of 30 swimmers to Mollymook this year. ken Banks of Mollymook Beach Waterfront accommodation and surf club commends Pam as the best surf instructor on the NSW South Coast. Soft boards, wet suits and coaching suitable for both youngsters and adults.

Statistics from the Sydney Bureau of Meteorology, indicate that the Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook district has the best climate on the east coast of Australia. Towns on the north coast of NSW and in Queensland often suffered from climates that were too hot and humid in the spring, summer and autumn months, while other tourist towns in other states had extremes in climate conditions that were not experienced in the Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook area.

Statistics from the regional Director of the Bureau of Meteorology in Sydney indicates that the temperature and rainfall experienced in the Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook district is far more pleasant that that experienced say, in Coffs Harbour. Yet Coffs Harbour has long proudly acclaimed itself as an area with a “perfect climate”. Coffs Harbour suffers with a mean yearly rainfall of some 1759ml (69″) whereas Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook has a more reasonable total of some 1266ml or 50″.

WARM IN WINTER

Contrary to popular belief that the NSW South Coast is cooler and is a place to be avoided in cold months, the Bureau of Meteorology figures show that in winter the mean daily temperature in Coffs Harbour is 13.6 while Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook is only slightly cooler at 12.0. This should explode forever, the myth that the NSW South Coast is cold and, like the birds, tourists should head north for the winter. The mean daily temperature for the hottest months, shows that Coffs Harbour reaches 23.1. Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook is not far behind at 21 again not a significant amount by any means. The two figures that are firmly in Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook favour are the ones that indicate that Coffs Harbour has had the highest reading of 43.3 whereas Ulladulla, Milton, Mollymook is shown at 38.1, a far more agreeable and pleasant climate than its northern counterpart.   Compiled by Gary Dale.

Not only did the sun shine, so too did the Mollymook surf club competitors who won numerous races. Perhaps the most exciting win was by the Under 15 board relay team. Led by Angus Curry, he set up a nice lead during the first leg followed by Holly Munday who was up against the boys. Holly paddled her heart out, caught and rode a nice wave to maintain the lead for Lewis Betts to maintain throughout the 3rd leg to come home easy winners. Great individual efforts were also recorded by Tarryn Love winning the U 15 beach sprint and flags, Michelle Howard in the U 17 & open female beach sprint, Angus Curry 1st in the U 15 board race, Tony Ireland Over 30′s board race & Ken Banks in the Over 50′s iron man and surf race.

Team events saw Mollymook home first in the March Past, 1st in the Taplin (Tony Ireland, Keith Purves & Greg Stratford), 1st in the Ski relay (Tony Ireland, Paul Burton & Greg Stratford)

Greg Bennett design stand up boards

Greg Bennett, Factory Manager of Bennett Surfboards Pty Ltd traveled down from Brookvale  to spend 2 days testing two new designed “Stand Up” surf boards at Mollymooks famous “Golfie Reef” break.

The huge swells on the Wednesday had all but disappeared come Thursday leaving 3 hours of testing in a subdued surf. Friday the swell increased a little to provide a useful 4 hours testing the handling of each board, one 10′ 6″ and the other 11′.

With a little encouragement Greg enticed Waterfronts owner to try his skill. He found it a little frustrating getting use to having to plant his feet across the board and failed to cause much havoc among the local board riding fraternity.   (Click on images to enlarge)

Mollymook Beach Waterfront guests’ enjoyed a picnic lunch in the beautiful surrounds, others frolicked in the surf with the Coastal Patrol boat keeping a watchful eye on those swimming.
